Roger Shepherd has developed and implemented databases for both the Mary Cassatt and John Singer Sargent Catalogue Raisonne projects sponsored by Adelson Galleries. I have been personally involved with the Sargent catalogue raisonné and the various incarnations of the database since the late 1980s. Last week we sat down to view our new Sargent database and we were thrilled with the work that Roger has done. He has a global understanding of compilation, editing, sorting, and cross-referencing requirements which made it very easy to discuss our particular needs. He was flexible in his approach to the material and changes or reconsiderations we asked for were never problematic. Aside from the obvious complexities that are inherent in developing a new program (as well as the integration of old database files), Roger has created a visually organized and intuitive database that we expect to use for many years to come. I would recommend him without reservation.
